Notes on the Internet # 9

What is Google Analytics and how does it work?
Google Analytics is a statistics system that collects data about users who visit our website. This is possible by placing special JavaScript code on the page, which, when a user logs on to the page, downloads the relevant data about them and sends them to Google Analytics. A summary of such data can be viewed later in the form of various detailed reports, ready-made or created by us. Examples of data collected about Google Analytics users when analyzing website traffic:
how did they reach us (through a search engine, or by sending them back from another page, or by directly entering the page address in the browser manually)
where were they physically (state, city)
what software were they using (operating system, browser, device type)
how they behaved on the site (how long they stayed on a certain subpage, how many subpages they visited)
All this information, properly analyzed and interpreted, can help improve our website and better adapt its content to the needs of the recipients.
How do I start collecting data in Google Analytics?
Connecting a website to Google Analytics is similar to Google Search Cosole. You must have a Google account, but not necessarily Gmail. With this account, we can add our website to Google Analytics. This requires that the tracking code is collected on all pages of the site to collect data. To add a new page to Google Analytics, you need to log in to the dashboard at: www.google.com/analytics / and select the "Administration" tab. There, select the New Account option. After identifying
the account name and providing the domain's web address, we will receive a code that should be placed on all pages of the website. As for installing the code, it is best to provide the Google Analytics webmaster with the tips displayed in Google Analytics.
Below is a brief description of each of the report groups available in Google Analytics statistics.
"Live" - what is happening on the site now?
On the "Live" tab, you will find updated information in real time regarding the people who are currently browsing our website. The "Total" tab contains the most important information:
How many users are currently viewing our website?
How did they find her?
Where are they now?
Are they viewing the mobile or computer version of the site?
Which pages are they currently viewing?
The data collected in real time can be especially useful when, for example, an article from our site has been quoted by a major portal, and we expect a large influx of Internet users to our site.
